Center for Youth and Communities Appoints Visiting Scholars for 2006-07 Academic YearHeller's Center for Youth and Communities (CYC) has appointed Dr. David S. Mundel and Dr. Dale A. Blyth, two nationally-recognized experts in the field of youth development, as visiting scholars for the 2006-07 academic year. Dr. Mundel will work closely with the policy and management staff at the CYC in the area of college-bound youth, with a focus on financing higher education. During fall semester 2006, Dr. Blyth will share his experience working on youth development research and policy influence. Each will offer school-wide colloquia and special class lectures throughout the year.
Professor Jody Hoffer Gittell Appointed Director of Heller's M.B.A. ProgramEffective September 1, 2006, Professor Jody Hoffer Gittell has assumed the responsibility of Director of Heller's Master of Business Administration program. "I have every confidence that Jody will build on the excellent program that has been ably run by Professor Barry Friedman over the last five years," said Heller Dean Stuart Altman. Professor Thomas Shapiro Now Leading Institute on Assets and Social PolicyProfessor Thomas Shapiro, who had been serving as Interim Director of Heller's Institute on Assets and Social Policy (IASP), has taken on the role of Director on a permanent basis. Heller Dean Stuart Altman said in announcing Prof. Shapiro's appointment, "The IASP continues to be one of the strongest pillars of The Heller School's education and research efforts, and I can think of no better person in the country to head The Heller School's programs in this area."
Dr. Christine Bishop Appointed To Named ProfessorshipDr. Christine Bishop, professor and director of The Heller School's Ph.D. Program, has been appointed to the Atran Chair in Labor Economics.
In announcing Dr. Bishop's appointment to the chair, Provost and Heller Professor Marty Wyngaarden Krauss praised "her scholarly accomplishments, her teaching, her contributions to the Brandeis community, and to her profession."
