ENGAGED SCHOLARS

Special Announcement: The Engaged Scholar positions for the 2007-2008 academic year have been filled. We are currently welcoming applications for the 08-09 academic year.

The Programs in Sustainable International Development announces a search for two Engaged Scholars for 7-week residencies in the fall semester (between August and December - Fall 2008) and in the spring academic semester (between January and May - Spring 2009). Engaged Scholars are persons known for their advocacy of social policy leading to more equitable and sustainable world development. Engaged Scholars might be academics, authors, leaders of humanitarian movements, or other socially engaged leaders. Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching one 7-week graduate-level seminar in international development and social change. Area of teaching could be on aspects of globalization; food security; gender; applied ecology; ecotourism; demography; project development; Asian, African or Latin American country or regional studies; religion and social change; community development, or development economics.

  • Mentoring first year graduate students on professional and career issues.

  • Assisting first year students in identifying and negotiating internship or fieldwork opportunities.

    The successful candidate will have substantial living and work experience in a developing nation. Women, persons of color and people from developing nations are particularly encouraged to apply. These Engaged Scholar appointments are for 7-week residencies only. Compensation includes travel and living expenses, and a generous stipend.
